"You will be an official representative of the Church . . . Your purpose will be to invite others to come unto Christ . . . Greater blessings and more happiness than you have yet experienced await you as you humbly and prayerfully serve the Lord in this labor of love among His children." . . . Thomas S. Monson

At the Airport ~ Welcome Home Elder Layton!

Written by Michelle...

It feels like we have already had Christmas at the Layton household. Elder Layton’s sister and her family arrived on Friday night from Las Vegas for the airport homecoming. The house has been full of joy, love and excitement! Landon has 4 sisters, the one in Vegas, one in Provo, and then 2 in Bountiful. Saturday morning Dean cooked us a big breakfast of French toast, eggs, hash browns, sausage, bacon and juice. It felt a lot like Christmas morning with the decorations, snow, family and joy. After cleaning breakfast up we did a little Christmas shopping.

Next stop…  Dollar Tree for a creative shopping spree of items to make posters. They have everything there that is needed to make the best posters. Foam boards, poster boards, tri-fold exhibit boards, paint, die cut alphabet, pom-pom balls, foam cut outs, glitter glue, stickers, etc! We let our minds go crazy on this one. Came home and started to create. We had posters laid out in every nook and cranny in the house, floors and table tops. This was really fun! Each of us came up with our own unique design and saying. I think we did this for a couple of hours, or more. Making them was a really fun activity and helped in the excitement of the following day. Posters dried overnight and were gathered up Sunday morning.

His coming home on a Sunday made for a different day. Church (9am) was really fun when people asked how much longer and we got to say, “TONIGHT!”  I must admit that I had a really hard time concentrating on much though. (I may have had to sit in the foyer through some of Sunday School.) Dean smoked some pork Friday so after church we had pulled pork sandwiches to snack on. We hung the Welcome Home Banner in the front yard and placed a spot light on it. Some worked on posters again and then there were the Chicken Pillows that Elder Layton had requested. Those were made and eaten just before leaving for the airport. Elder Layton’s were put aside just for him for later.

Time to go to the airport! We left home at 7:15pm for the 8:25 arrival time. I think there were 38 of us that came to greet him. The flight was delayed due to fog in SLC. We were fixed on the flight board as we saw it change from 8:25 to delayed, to 8:45, to delayed, to 9:15 and then finally landed at 9:30. The plane was circling for some time and almost had to land in PROVO! NO!!! Landon said he prayed and prayed. (They were on a small plane that was not equipped with auto landing gear for fog.) Then over the speaker the pilot said, “We’re going to give the landing a try and see how it goes.” Haha are you kidding me?!

I think that the pictures and video will speak for themselves with not a lot of explanations. But I will tell you that it was one of the best days of my life. Hands down right up there with my wedding, the births of our 5 children, and now this. That was the BEST hug that I have probably ever had! I did wait for Dean on his mission and that was a pretty sweet hug too but not like a Missionary Mom’s Hug!!!
