"After ballin' up the court, just doing the missionary thang." |
Writing in French last time was just too much work... Haha so I will just stick with the English gig. I think that that works a little better. And I think that you would agree! I loved reading your letter like always. It always makes me smile when I read what everyone is up to and doing in their lives. It also sounds like Christmas is going into full swing out there! How exciting in that!? I bet you guys are all having so much fun out there. Christmas here too is doing well. Well I mean the lack there of... I guess when it starts snowing where you're at, it starts getting hot here! I usually wake up in the night if the power goes out because my fan stops working. I woke up one night thinking that the power went out because I was sweating bullets. But sure enough, my fan was blasting on 3, but instead of acting as a cooling fan, it was acting as a heater... Haha gotta love it! I accepted the fact that I was already soaked and just went back to sleep. But luckily that was just one day, all the others were good! And that night even wasn't bad per say... Crazy, absolutely crazy to think that I will be home for the next Christmas season! Just one more year and a little change. Ça c'est incroyable! Elder Wolthoff bore his testimony at Zone Conference this last Saturday, he only has 11 days left, and it was pretty cool. I was really good friends with him and he lives in Layton. So that is a homecoming that you could go to. If possible. It's not like dad has any lessons to teach! Haha just kidding. But really though. I forgot to wish Grandpa a happy birthday! So give him a late, "joyeux anniversaire!!" I jammed my middle finger today playing basketball and it is really hard to type... So you should have a ton of sympathy for me, okay? ;) I bet that that was fun having the Strongs over for Thanksgiving! That sounds like a blast! I bet they had a good time being over there and seeing everyone. Did you not send me a picture of all the food you ate on purpose? Haha I was anxious to see it! Then have envy to eat it... So I guess you chose wise in keeping that picture hid from me!
This week has gone by what? Oh yeah, you guessed it! Fast just like all of the others... I swear ya know, you blink and the week is over. This whole week, all the missionaries have been getting ready for the transfer (that happened last night) and that was pretty much all that we talked about. It is usually like that all the time but this time, they were picking the new assistant and releasing McCray. The new assistant is going to be Elder Robsion. All the transferes were good! I mean, I am still here... Going on 6 months and at the end of this transfer it'll be 7 and a half which is crazy long... One sector with three companions haha. But hey, you gotta love and work with what you have and that is what I am going to do. So for the time being I am still here in Ablogamé. Which is fine with me! We should be having 2 baptisms coming up this Saturday, with Augustin and Jaqueline. Ghislain couldn't make it to church which was too bad.. And you have to come to church twice before you can be baptized so we are going to have to move his to another date. There are going to be A TON of baptisms here this saturday because for the past two weeks, we didn't have church at our normal church branches. So that'll be something to look forward too! Elder Ouonnebo and myself are going great too. We get along really well! That is a blessing. If I am going to stay in the same sector forever, I am happy that it is with someone that I like.
This morning we went and played basketball as a district and that was a blast! Well for the 5 minutes that I could play... I cannot tell you how embarrassed I am, not for others but embarrassed of myself, how out of shape I am. I ran up and down the court 3 or 4 times and I couldn't even breathe... And right now as I am typing I can barley pick my feet up! I literally played 10 lonely minutes of basketball, and I am wasted! How crazy is that!? Getting back into shape is going to be brutal... I can already see those first 3 months of working out just being heck! I try and do push-ups and work out a little bit but it just thrashes my wrists and is not worth it... So unfortunately that'll be something that will have to be taken care of when I get back. But as of right now, they are perfect for the work that I am doing! Anyways, basketball was fun! It was fun to get together and talk about where everyone was going. Elder Caycho is coming to Souza and replacing Elder Wolthoff so I will get to see him a lot again and I am excited for that. There was a member from our branch that came and played with us too and he is MASSIVE! We don't like it when he comes and plays with us being he is too good and it isn't fun haha... Hey, give us a break, we are out of shape white pasty missionaries! But in the end, it was all in all good fun. I will send a picture of all of us in another email.
I have thought of a couple things that would be nice to have in the next package you send... Some colored scripture markers. Not pencils or pens, or markers, but the waxy crayon ones... I don't really know how to explain them, or if they are hard to find... But if you could get your hands on some that would be cool :) And also, I know that there is a DVD selection called, "History of the Church" and it has a ton of DVDs and films and short clips that the church has released... I would love to have that too... I am pretty sure that is what it is called. It was in our apartment when we first got here, who knows who took it. And I have yet to get conference talks... bummer. I don't know why that is taking so long dang it! I did get Debbie’s second Birthday card though. Make sure to tell her thank you for that! As for the package I think that is about it... I know they are expensive though, so don't be in a hurry to send it. Also, I took 100 dollars from my Wells Fargo Account (don’t know if there is a dollar sign on this keyboard...) Just letting you know. And I tried my Mountain America card and it seized to work again... Haha I don't know what to tell ya about that.
Well the work is going great, and the investigators are progressing. So I can't complain one bit! I have such a great testimony of the work that I am doing here, and I am so happy that I get to share it here with the people of Togo. President Weed told us that at the start of our missions we have that little time window of two years to preach the gospel, and that window quickly gets smaller and smaller, everyday that you are here in the mission field. And to think that I am just about half way, and to think that my window has shrunken in half, that just blows my mind. This work is true, if not the most true work there is on the earth. And I am stoked to be out here doing it. Thank you so much for all of the support and love that you give to me, and the prayers that you offer up to Heavenly Father on my behalf. Have a great day and keep on truckin' along in whatever comes along in your life.
Love your son,
Elder Layton
