Dear Family,
Happy 13 months! Whoo!! Can you believe it!? Today marks being away from my family and friends for 13 whole months... WOW! It kinda just sounds like something that I am saying, but isn't really real. Kinda like, "yeah I totally just walked through Willy Wonka's chocolate factory!" But I didn't... But like when I say that I have been serving the Lord for 13 months, I really have been! And it is cooler than chocolate! Ah so insane. Anyways, so yeah. Thank you for your letter! It was fun to get a little paragraph from everyone and hear what they had to say! When I was reading each paragraph it was like I could hear each person’s voice talking to me! Very cool. Make sure to tell them all thank you and to have a great week playin' in the snow! (I am super jealous by the way. Wanna trade?)

This week has been a
hot one! But at the same time not so hot... We have been getting winds that
have cooled the days down. But when I say wind, it is not like wind in Utah...
Kinda like a heater kinda wind. All in all, still good though! Walking in a
winter wonderland for sure! We have ice that gathers in the back of our fridge
which is kinda like snow. I don't want to touch it though because it kinda
stinks and is tinted dark. Loved your letter!
This week was a good, solid week. I don't think that I have ever heard the words, "il n'est pas la" so many times in a week as I did this week. Our amis seem to be having a little problem keeping their appointments which throws our whole day off, and forces us to go door to door... Which isn't all bad, and it's pretty much necessary if you can’t find people to teach. We had an amis leave out of town for a month for business, and is really rich... and will be there for more than a month, so that was kind of a setback. When there are rich people, people usually follow. Said, "I am the leader of my family, you guys have to understand that if I get baptized in your church that means that my kids, sisters, brothers, aunts and uncles are going to get baptized as well... So I have to make sure that it is a good church." We just smiled and said that that was okay with us!
I have already come to love the members here in this branch, they are so awesome!! There is a Sister named Soeur Kinnya, and she was baptized by Elder Winkleman over a year ago. But she makes dinner for the missionaries every single Monday and brings it over to the apartment and it is SO GOOD! Today it will be fufu with peanut sauce! My favorite... It doesn't really taste like peanuts though. Just like a good saucy sauce. I don't know how to explain it haha. She was the sister in the pic that I sent you when we were all wearing those pines and dancing. There is another sister named Soeur Nicole and she is super cool! She loves working with the missionaries and is probably the hardest working member here! Something different here in Africa is that people don't care if you call them fat or talk about weight... Like when you introduce someone they would say, "Oh okay so you were that fat lady that came into sacrament late last Sunday." Haha when I first got here I was shocked! I was like... Uh you probably shouldn't say that! But I have just gotten used to it. And I hope it doesn't come back with me! Because I would get slapped if I talked liked they did at home haha.

Oh yeah and another thing... So you know how I
didn't speak French before the mission? Well I have learned just by ear and
listening to other people talking. Some are pretty vulgar
when then speak, it is just their culture. And I learned a lot of French when I
was with... Well the French Elder that I am living
with has been shocked at the things that I say because they are really bad and vulgar
ways to talk in French...Ha, I didn't know!! Whenever I said these phrases
it didn't seem to affect anyone... They seemed fine with it! But thanks to
Devergez, he is helping me "break the habit" of swearing! I thought that was funny... But kind of bad at the same time. But I am innocent.
Good to know if I have to blow up at someone someday in French, I will have
those words and phrases in my back pocket :)
Well, missionary work is going good, loving it, embracing it, and doing it. I love you all and hope that you have a great week playing in the snow! Don't you once wish for hot weather... Take it in while you can ;) You are all in my prayers and I leave you till next Monday.
