"You will be an official representative of the Church . . . Your purpose will be to invite others to come unto Christ . . . Greater blessings and more happiness than you have yet experienced await you as you humbly and prayerfully serve the Lord in this labor of love among His children." . . . Thomas S. Monson

This Work Really Is The Work Of The Lord

Jaqueline!... When I was transferred within Togo...

This one is for the Strongs... Go Ducks!!!

This is Claude and he is the biggest bandit you'll ever meet! He dances really good though! You will be excited to watch the video!

This is Claude reading one of our brochures! Haha that is what we do when we don't have any progressing amis... We teach 5 year olds.

That's just your studly of a man son right there...

Me and my future wife. Whose real name is Adwele.

Little boy with his hat. Thought you would like that!

Dear family,

February... Crept up so fast am I right? I was absolutely shocked when I looked at my watch the other day and saw it read "02-01". In exactly 11 days, I will have been in Africa for a year!! Can you guys believe that? I sure can't.. Like I say every time haha. This whole experience is just unbelievable! It was fun to see that picture of you all watching the super bowl! Ty emailed me, and I totally read his email before yours... Sorry :/ But he told me about the game and I totally forgot that NFL football has been going on! I totally forgot! Then Ty gave me the 411 on the Bears too... Didn't even make the playoffs. But thank you for holding my picture in your picture! Made me feel really included :) Do you guys make sure to go into my room and talk to Brain sometimes? (Brian Urlacher FatHead on his wall)

Elder Layton's Bedroom Wall
I have had many conversations with him alone, so I need you to explain to him that I will be back before he knows it! And not to worry. Everyone sounds like they are doing great though! Kylee and Sam got to run away to Midway! That sounds like fun. I heard a story about Midway one time from someone, I forgot who, but they got chased with a rock from a drug dealer.... So I hope that you were careful! I love you all!!

This week for me was great!! Kind of not very productive... BECAUSE the African Cup for soccer has been going on the past couple weeks, and Togo has been winning and winning (I guess they never win...) But they made it to the quarter finals, and I have never seen so many people going crazy about it! All of our amis called us and canceled, which we kind of anticipated.. We watched the game at one of our amis house, and Togo lost to Burkina 1-0... People were absolutely ticked! Nice amis were mean to us... Haha but they got over it. It was fun to be a part of it all! Seeing little Togo doing so well among all the other countries! I don't really know what happens now with the tournament, but I guess we will just have to wait and see.

One of our amis that we have, Lukas, is progressing like a mad man!! He is a professor and is really smart... He fell in love with the Book of Mormon and has already starting reading it from start to finish. Then he reads all of the footnotes and gives us a report on every thing that he learned! Needless to say that he has actually taught me a lot of stuff about the Book of Mormon. He came to church this last Sunday and was SO excited! I asked him why he was so happy and he said, "I have never been to a church where you could actually ask questions to the teacher, and get an answer right on the spot! Is it always like that?" I assured him that he could ask all the questions that his heart desired, and we would all do our best to answer them! He left church with Book of Mormon in hand smiling! His wife doesn't speak very good French... So we have to go with a member who can translate for us. But it all works out! We have yet to ask him if he is married legally yet... Kind of scared to because that can put a straight up halt to missionary work... We will ask him next time we go over there. Other than him, we don't really have anyone that is progressing super well. Everyone else is going slowly but surely! Oratio is doing good! He always asks questions that I don't know the answer too... Like really weird questions is what I mean. Like we read all of Marc 6 with him and he asked SO MANY questions! I told him that I would have to study that myself and I would get back to him on the questions... Keep in mind that he was a super hard core Baptist before.
Here is a picture of our baptism! The little boy is Oratio's son Abraham, The girl in the white dress in Gisele, the one that we baptized not too long ago, the one in the pink is a member who helped us with all of the lessons with them. She works everyday with the missionaries! She is the bomb.

Today we went to the big market and I bought some little things for myself. I did hear about it burning, but you have to realize how HUGE this market is, and I didn't see any damage... (WHAT? That must be a VERY big place for sure!) But I heard that it put a lot of people in financial trouble which is sad... But what can you do?

I really like going there and talking to everyone. There are a lot of members who work there and it is fun to see them all! Surprisingly they don't give any mercy on the prices for the missionaries...

Firefighters put out a fire that broke out in Lome Grand Marche, the biggest mall in Togo's capital, as residents and policemen gather near by, in Lome

I want to have my companion record me trying to bargain prices! I try so hard not to laugh when I do it because it is so out of my nature... You almost get into a shouting argument. And it always ends with, "it's because I'm white, isn't it?" Hahaha Sometimes I just argue to see how low I can get the price, then I don't buy it, and that makes people mad. You have to realize as well that when people see a white person in the market, you get hounded like crazy! Buy this! buy that! here! there!  But it is a fun game! Oh I forgot to tell you!!! I made potatoes like dad!!!!! WHOOOOO!!! They were so good!! Fried potatoes! I was so stoked! Not as good as dads... But still, SO AMAZING! I closed my eyes and imagined that I was sitting at our kitchen table with a big steak in front of me!! But unfortunately it was just a sandwich. But with really good potatoes! I was so happy for myself... Just thought that I would share that piece of information with you.

So yeah, the mission is going awesome!!! And I am loving every minute of it! I know that this work really is the work of the Lord, and that though this message people really can be happier in their lives. I have seen it done so many times and that there, has truly strengthened my personal testimony! Have a great day, and remember who you are and what you stand for!

                                   Love your son,
