"This is me on a rock at a beach next to the horrible, huge, horrific ocean! But it is cool right? " |
I have some bad news... I don't really want to beat around the bush with it because that wouldn't help... The truth is, ok I will just give you the breakdown of it all. So there I was, sitting at my table doing my personal study when I hear the phone ring, it was of course with my companion because he always has it and never lets anyone else touch it, ever. Anyways so yeah I hear the phone ring and I just think that it would be an ami canceling another rendez-vous like usual. But then I heard my companion get up out of his chair and start walking down the hall to our room where I study. He didn't say anything and just gave me the phone. I looked at the screen and saw that is was the assistants. My heart dropped... I didn't know why they would be calling me in the middle of the week... I mean, transfers were just 2 weeks ago... So I picked up the phone and said hello. Then he gave it to me... The news. "Elder Layton, we thank you for your service in Finagnon, you will be TRANSFERRED TO TOGO TO BE ZONE LEADER IN Bé KPOTA!!!! I am being transferred to Togo!!!! Can you freaking believe it!? Hahaha I probably totally got you... All sounding like something bad happened, but then just gave you the best news you have ever received in your whole lives! Did you understand!? I am going to Togo! I am leaving tomorrow morning! By some miracle, there were some Elders that had some problems with their Visas and had to leave Togo ASAP... Luckily one of them was a Zone Leader, and President chose me to go over and replace him! I am so excited! Ah... So there is the bad/not bad at all actually really amazing news! I am going to Togo! It is the same Zone that I was in when I was serving in Ablogamé. So I will be able to go on splits with missionaries in my own sector and hopefully be able to see Jacqueline and Agathe (let's hope!) Eh? Eh? No just kidding. But really. What a blessing this is! I have endured my time, and voila my reward! I hope you guys are as happy as I am :) Because I am super happy! Thank for your prayers!
On top of what I just explained above, there was a lot of stuff that happened this week. Well not a ton... But some. Like I said above, we won the apartment inspection again! Never get sick of that. Spending the afternoon with the Semkens is always fun. We went to Festival des Glaces. Got a Hamburger and Fries. Nice little break as usually from the usually spaghetti and rice. On Friday we had our interviews with President Weed which went well as always. To be honest he didn't have much to say. Which I think is a good thing. I have always kept the mindset of no news in good news. Or if he doesn't have to tell me a lot of stuff that means he assumes that I already know it. Haha at least that is what I hope! It went good nevertheless. I have been loving living with Elder Rakotonirina... We have gotten really close. He is a really good Elder and a hard worker. He teaches me bad things to say in Malagasy haha. Not too bad though... Just funny things. My new companion will be from Madagascar and I think his name is Rantoianana. Something like that anyways. I know him really well and I am super excited to be working with him. He goes home in September. So I am sure that I will be with him until then.
As today was my last P-Day's in Benin, I took advantage and went and bought some Christmas presents! And no I won't tell you what they are! Just be super excited! Even though that it was bought with your own money... Hahaha. But I had to talk the prices down and say things to people that I am not proud of! But hey, you gotta do what you gotta do in those rough situations. Needless to say, my Christmas shopping is just about done for when I get home! Just some last little things to do in Togo and I will be good! I have already gotten rid of a lot of stuff, and am down to having one empty suitcase... So that is pretty cool! I will probably give my other one to a member, that is usually what other missionaries do. I will for sure keep it till the very end to make sure that I have enough room for everything. But yeah we had a good day at the Marché.
Yesterday was my last day working in my sector... So I said goodbye to a lot of members and amis. Gave out our home phone number. So if people call trying to either talk English or French, just say that I'll call them back in a couple months haha. Tonight we are going to have Family Home Evening one last time with the family Atchado, family Santos, and Pierre and Bertin. So I will get a picture with them and send it next week. And my card reader I think is finally broken... I bought it here at the very start of the mission and thought that it would break within a week... But it has lasted until now! But now I don't have one for today... So I will have to send you the pictures of leaving next week from Togo. I know that the cyber in Bé Kpota is super nice so there shouldn't be any problems. We hope haha. Never know. If no other missionaries bring their card reader, you will just have to wait.
So yeah that is about everything that happened in this week... I am kind of sad to be leaving Finagnon the branch. Me and Elder Baird have been doing Sunday school and priesthood in Enlgish for the past couple weeks and it has been really good! So I am sad to leave that... I am being replaced by a Frenchie, so he won't be able to take my place... But Elder Baird is still here so he will be able to take care of it. Of yeah! I did confer the priesthood to Obot on Sunday! That was the first time in English or French that I have done that! It was absolutely amazing! Like I said before, he is a lot different from the other Nigerians that I have met... He is going to be a good church leader someday! Well family, thank you so much for all that you do for me and the support that you give me. I loved seeing the pictures of Manti and your drive up to Wyoming! Elder Merritt will be jealous! That is where he is from... Well God speed. I love you guys so much and wish you a good week :)
Love,
Elder Landon Dean Layton
