Dear Family,
Hey, what's up? I just got to cyber and read your letter and that's about it. It was a good letter. Sounds like you are all doing really well! Kinda like me! I am doing well. Really well. It isn't too hot today, so that is a treat. Kinda like the sucker that I got from the Christensen's! A mango flavored sucker. That was the highlight of my week I think haha. But I will try and put something else together so you don't get mad at me... It sounds like Christmas time is slowly creeping up in the Layton house! Just as FYI, I don't want to see any pictures of Christmas lights or the house or anything like that... I want the first time to be in person! Figure it'll be a lot cooler than a picture ya know? Kylee's salon looks really good! So professional looking. Having very talented family members is something that I have always been proud of! You guys are awesome. I think that you guys go to Robintino’s at least like 3 times a week! Haha I swear! You guys just rubbing it in or what? Trying to get all the Robins runs in before I get home eh? Better not be the case. I mean my beans on rice with a fried egg aren't horrible, but a steak with some Heinz 57 doesn't sound too shabby, not too shabby at all.
Brace yourselves for a crazy letter, because my week was jam packed with action. So listen to this, when I woke up on Tuesday morning at 6:00(am), I went to go to the bathroom, because before I went to bed I drank WAY too much water than one should before sleeping. But the door was locked! Can you believe that!? Get this, my companion has already gotten up, and was already in the bathroom! How ludicrous is that!? So I went over to use the other bathroom in the hall, luckily we have two bathrooms in our apartment, but that door was locked too! So here I was, early in the morning with a full bladder, and nowhere to go! So this is when I had to put my thinking cap on. I mean, I could of waited for my companion to finish and just go after he was done, but how big of a waste of time would that be!? And I don't think that I could have waited in the first place... So I went in the back and peed on some weeds. Then the rest of Tuesday was just a normal day.
Okay, you're never going to even start to guess what happened to me on Wednesday! I was super sick... I woke up again at 6:00(am), and my stomach was just turning like a washing machine set on "Make Landon Run To The Toilet With His Hand Covering His Back Side In Case Of Explosion". I think that I ate some bad tuna. The lady who sold it to me was really mean. She was all like, "it's 600francs". Then I was all like, "Um, are you sure it isn't 500francs " Because it always is. But the lady didn't even look at me in response and she just kept putting soap up on the shelves! So I was like saying to myself, "If I don't buy this tuna, I literally won't have anything to eat at home...". It's almost as if the woman was reading my mind, and she knew how much I needed that can of tuna.. But in the end I ended up paying the extra 100 francs, which is like 20 cents.. For tuna that made me sick. But I think that I got a bad can of tuna that made me sick, because I urinated in the back yard the day before! Because let's be honest, I probably shouldn't have done that. Even when my companion found out that the "weeds" in the back yard weren't "weeds" at all but tomato plants.. (Oops). But yeah after a horrible day of staying in the apartment all day and having the Hershey Squirts, it all went away. Thank goodness! I hate staying in the apartment! But it is all good now! I don't think that I am ever going to buy tuna from that lady again. I really think that she might have done voodoo on it because I was giving her a hard time on the price. Ah well.
Thursday, my one month left mark! Hip hip, hooray!! Hip hip, hooray! We found a girl that we are probably going to baptize before I leave which is awesome.. She is pretty... Pretty. I guess that works. Her name is Chantel. When we asked her to come to church, she said yes. But like, everyone and their dog says yes, then on the marrow, they don't come.. So I was like yeah okay I guess we'll see. But she was there even before we were! And she loved church! So I am pretty heart set that she is going to be baptized in the next two weeks... Soeur Beatrice helps us out with the lessons. Thursday was not even half as exciting with the day’s events of Tuesday and Wednesday.. But we can't have everything in life, right? Unfortunately.
Friday, my companion and I were super sneaky... We decided to pay a little unexpected visit to one of the apartments in our zone. Hahaha so we got there at like 8:45, when they should be all dressed and in the middle of companionship study, but they were all sitting there in their garments, half of them sleeping and the other half just lounging around... Haha they were like, "Uh... Why are you here?" And we just told them that we came to do weekly planning with them! So they all got dressed and we planned with them. It is interesting to know how the districts actually work when they don't know that you are coming! Keeps them on their toes ya know? The whole zone is actually doing really good and kicking butt! Just one or two companionship's are struggling here and there. After that we stayed at their apartment because we had to do a baptismal interview.
Later we went to Veronique's and Laurent's house and they fed us rice! They are really nice people.. Except for after the mom had put salt in the sauce, the little daughter didn't know and put in more salt, so like, the sauce was super salty... She knew that and was super bummed about it.. But it's okay. I asked her, "Hey Veronique, do you want some rice with your salt??" They didn't get it though... Kinda the whole, "hey do you want some hot dog with your ketchup??", if someone put a ton of ketchup on their hot dog, like a joke. But they didn't get it like I said so I felt stupid. But me feeling stupid made them laugh, so it all turned out okay! If there was one family here that I wanted to help it would be this family... They are all so amazing!

"The Assou family. They are really the nicest people in the world ! The mom is hilarious !!!" (From September) |
The mother is so sweet and nice, and the dad is a super good dad for his kids and husband for his wife. Family life here in Africa is not at all like it is at home. They don't eat together here. The dad eats, then the mom, then the kids, and it's all at different times. Everything is just always separate. But the Assou family are like an American family! It is going to be really hard to say goodbye to them all.
Well that is my week in a nutshell. Still loving the Book of Mormon and reading it every day. I am scared that I won't have enough time to read it at home like I get to here on the mission... I can't imagine a life without the Book of Mormon. I love you all, and wish you guys a great week! Sorry I don't have any pictures for you this week... Maybe next week! Heck maybe no more till I get home, then you can see the real thing! Yay!!!
Love,
Elder Landon Dean Layton
