Happy Birthday!! |
Dear Family,
Sometimes I put the day first, then the month, so sometimes that can get pretty confusing. But since today is the 11th, and the number month of November, it doesn't matter either way! That is a plus for the letter right!? Well I just want to start out by saying THANK YOU for all the birthday wishes!! You guys really are the best! I did get your package, and I will tell you how I used it all! I am sorry to say though that I didn't use the tops at all... Or the fake teeth.. But I think that it is safe to say that you guys already knew that I wasn't really doing to use them, and just sent them as a joke, right!? Ah well if not... Thank you for the package though! I thought your thinking process was pretty right on target. Why waste 70 bucks on a package that I won't really even profit from, when you could get me some classy sheepskin seat covers... I can already feel them under my freezing December tushy ;).
It sounds like you guys had a good time in Vegas too! It is weird that the Strongs live somewhere where people go on vacations... I guess that will always be a good excuse to go there in the future! And of course to see them! That's a bummer for Jackson and his loss.. That is exactly how it was for me and my last little league football game.... Losing to Jordan in the playoffs in overtime. I still get butterflies thinking about it.. And Mountain Crest still brings tears to my eyes.. So yeah.. Tell him not to get down on himself and to step it up now that he will be playing on Friday Nights! That's where the memories are made for sure. Sounds like you guys are all doing really well and are happy! So, that's a good thing!
This week, was a pretty busy week.. On Wednesday, we had our Zone Leader training with the assistants and President Weed. That went really good as always. President Weed talked to us about the importance of working with members and how now is the time to really strengthen the lines between the members and the missionaries. Because for some reason, worldwide in the church, members seem to think that missionaries do their own thing, and the members do their own thing, and the church is happy. But that's not true at all! Missionaries and the members have to work together if we want to get anywhere in this work.. I mean, the work will always go forward and nothing can stop that, but it's when the members are united with the missionaries and vise versa that the work will grow a lot faster. I really liked the lesson as usual. We ate some pizza after.. Which wasn't good. I just remember looking at Elder Poll and saying, "Dude, we're going to be having BBQ Chicken pizza from Domino's in like, 5 weeks.." Then we just smiled at each other :) Haha it was a tender moment.
Wednesday was a normal day... I had to do my lesson for Thursday, which was Zone Conference. I taught on the importance of companionship study. I think that it went pretty well. I used two missionaries in the zone to come up and teach my companion (acting as their investigator). But the first time I blind folded them and tied their hands behind their backs and took them to two different parts of the room, spun them around, and told them to reunite. Go find their investigator, and teach him according to his needs, which I wrote on a sign and put it around his neck, but they couldn't see it of course because they were blind folded. Then I wore a sign too that said "adversary" and I was whispering things in their ears to thrown them off course, but they couldn't see my sign because once again, they were blind. So then I took their blind folds off and untied their hands and talked about companionship study, and they did a mock companionship study. They then went and talked with their ami again but a lot easier... I think that it went really good! Better than just sitting there and reading from Preach My Gospel and having people fall asleep like usual.. President said that it was really well done.. So I'm happy.
Friday was just a normal day, not much really happened. Except a miracle! Fofo went to his village for like the 4th time to try and talk to his family about the marriage papers.. So after explaining everything to his brother in-law, the person who is the head of the family now that his father in-law is dead, said that when he took the first step of marriage, and then paid for the funeral of his wife's father, he had nothing left to pay, and gave all the information that was needed so that Fofo and his family could be baptized!! YAY!! How awesome is that!? So now we are just going to fix a date and get all of that stuff verified. I will explain the whole marriage thing to you guys when I get home because it takes too long and it is too complicated. But yeah Fofo now has the go ahead to get baptized! I know that your prayers helped a lot too. So, thank you very much :)

There they are… The big Two! ON the left is Djimdo, and on the right is Fofo. They came to assist the baptismal service. That made them just that much more excited to want to be baptized!! |
Saturday, was Linda's Baptism! Her birthday was Friday, and her baptism and my birthday were on Saturday! Hooray!! It all went really good, and we had like 6 baptisms in our zone this past Saturday! Way to go Bé Kpota.... Then on Sunday after church, we went to Linda's house to celebrate our birthdays together! It went really good! We ate Yovo Gbomadési with Emakoumé, so like that was pretty bomb! Haha once again, stuff that I'll explain to you when I get home. If you can find me some corn flower when I get home, I will make it for you!! And you won't like it... Haha. But yeah... It was a good birthday! And Sister Weed called me and wished me a Happy Birthday as well! So that was nice! She is a sweetheart for sure. Haha I love her to death.
Well that is about it for me for the week. The work isn't slowing down, still going hard right up until the very last day! And we will find out more about the last days here in the next week or two.. Who is going to replace me and what day I will be leaving Togo and all of that. Well I love you guys so much, and hope you have a wonderful day and week!
Love,
Elder Landon Dean Layton
